structure is devine
I am back to work and so happy to have my life more structured. When I am off my creativity seems to be on overdrive . Days are spent chasing the wild animals around the property for just the right picture. Trees, plants are examined walking in the woods. Friendships are examined and expanded upon filling my emotional bank account for rougher times. Gifts are made by my hands for relatives and friends, not because it is a special holiday but because I have the time and freedom to show I care.
Now that I am back to work life is more structured but not less creative. It takes creativity of the highest kind to be able to express empathy. Don't get sympathy confused with Empathy. They are completely different , altough they each serve a role.
I often think of the story in the Bible Matthew 2; where Jesus heals the paralyzed man. The characters are the Healer, Jesus, the men who carry the paralyzed man to jesus through the roof and the crowd that watched.
The 3 men who carried the man had empathy. They were "healer enablers". The crowd had sympathy. jesus was the healer.
Empathy requires that you remain objective and be creative and act. The men who carried the paralyzed man were creative enough to cut a hole in the roof to get past the obstructing group that were trying to prevent them from doing this. Empathy ruled here and set a spark to their creativity. The crowd, probably sympathetic, stood and watched. sympathy sometimes causes inertia and inability to act because it is not objective and not courageous and one is overwhelmed by emotions. There is no risk taking. There is no spark. Thus lacking in putting one's feelings to use and acting.I heard a quote made by Anderson Cooper made the other day and he said "Hope is not a plan." In reference to help during Hurricane katrina. This has the same result.
Being back to work, I sometimes have to stop in at the supermarket for a carton of milk. Once again I notice the people walking as if their minds were somewhere else. They walk 2-4 in a row and have no idea that they are walking over you. Their heads are not attached-just bodies moving through the store , unconciously picking things up and putting them in a cart and what is really dangerous is that the bodies are steering the carts. Somehow the bodies make it to the check-out leaving their victims behind unconciously run over.!
So, I am glad to be back where I have an opportunity to use my kind of creativity every minute of the day and no longer have to search for an opportunity. It is usually presented in the form of humanity in front of me.
