This is a picture from my patio doors this morning. We have 15 of these partridge in our back yard today. Most are below scavaging the seed that the little birds are dropping. All the East is in anticipation of a winter storm. There is nothing Easterners love better than a winter storm that snows them in for days at a time. It is a chance to bond, shovel, use candles, and dig yourself out for work. You know: You against Nature. The shopping centers are full of cars today when I went out for a walk. Loading up on groceries and books to read by lamplight, generators, candles and playing cards. For at least a day it will be us against nature, showing us once again our own strength and resources. The back yard is full of deer gobbling what greenery they can find, and a few apples I put out. The seagulls are in from the sea for protection, the birds are filling up like the cars at the gas bars-all life is connected in a way. A time to be challenged by the shortest day of the year in a few days, and to snuggle down in the warmth of the fire in evenings. I love Canada!

um....I think that's a pheasant. Pretty closely related to a partridge, all right...they're all "gallinaceous fowl" I believe -- i.e. "chickens with uppity notions"... he's beautiful, whatever he is!
